When What to My Wondering Eyes Should Appear

Santa's elves have been busy at my house. I came home from work on Tuesday to find my house all festive on the outside. There are lights hung around my garage, lights lining my walkway, and lights in the bushes! What a cool surprise. I had just decorated the inside the night before with the help of my friend Tamara. So I immediately thought that she had done this. She was quite insistent that I not skip decorating this year. But as I opened my garage and went to park I noticed the boxes that the lights must have come in sitting on the table in the garage. So the elves know my garage code. This really narrows down the list of possible suspects. I called my parents and they have no knowledge (or so they say) about what is going on. I can pretty much rule out any friends because those that know the code were visiting from out of state which is where they are now. That leaves me with just a few options. I remember giving the code to my sister Tammy once to allow her to drop something off in my garage since I was not home. Thus I'm going to guess that my sisters (Launa and Tammy) are in cahoots on this. Whoever it was put a lot of work into it. It was a very heart-warming surprise to come home to. Thanks!

It's a Christmas Miracle

I've heard the stories. Some of them even firsthand. But never did I expect to be among the notorious iPhone owners who manage to find their precious iPhones in a toilet. I mean how does that happen? Oh I know what you are thinking. I used to be you. That is until yesterday.

I was at my parent's home about to wash my hands. I went to set my phone down on the counter and somehow it slipped. I over reacted and went to protect the phone. I probably made it much worse as I bumped it into the the toilet. Sad day! This is one of those times that I'm so grateful that my mother is a major cleanliness freak. (Mom, I don't really think you are a freak other than sometimes when it comes to cleaning.) My reflexes were lightening fast. I did not hesitate to reach right in and rescue my dear iPhone. I gave it a good wipe down trying to eliminate all moisture. Unfortunately water got into the speakers and the jack. I was sure that I was going to be out a lot of cash. I tried shutting my phone down but it would turn itself back on. This didn't sound good! I noticed that I could still get and send text messages. That was good news. But I also noticed that anything that produced sound on the phone was not working. I kept getting an error message about how the accessory was not made to work with this iPhone. Apparently toilet water is not a compatible accessory for my iPhone. Good to know! :)

I am pleased to report that my phone seems to be in perfect working order today. I'm grateful for that! And before you mock me, just remember that I used to be you.

Getting Off Automatic

I'm always thinking that I would like to take a class and learn something new. When I started getting into photography I immediately thought about taking a class. Well after a year and a half after purchasing and using my camera I've decided to do it. I'm taking a 2 day workshop from Provo Creative called Getting Off Automatic. Provo Creative is behind the meetup group (ProvoCreative Models/Photographers Group) that I belong to where I took the "Trash the Dress" photos. My friend and fellow photog, Chris, is taking the course too. And after posting it on Facebook, it looks like there will be a few other friends attending. Too bad it's not until January. I'm getting excited about it.

This Santa Made the News!

My friend and fellow Santa Run companion, Liz, informed me that I made the Deseret News photos. (I'm in the 7 of 8 photo.) The photo above is from the Deseret News taken by Brian Nicholson. I was totally mugging for my friend Josh who was taking photos. Meanwhile I look like some crazy for the Deseret News! :)

My First 5K - Provo Santa Run

John, Landon, Brian, & Jason

So with my work to lose some weight and get healthier I had started running at the gym on the treadmill. I had been inspired by a few friends, particularly Brad & Josh, who are runners. Also I've had a fear of running on the treadmill and looking foolish. It had been over 10 years since I've tried running on one. I had been running for about 3 weeks. I say running but really it really feels more like jogging.

In any case a week before the Provo Santa Run my friend Landon who was visiting from Idaho invited me to join him and some friends for the 5K. I decided to bite the bullet and sign up. I then had one week to prepare for the run knowing that I was going to do it.

During the run I walked several times to try and catch my breath with all the cold air. So I was surprised when I finished the run and realized that I had beat any of my treadmill times. I came in right under 31 minutes. I'm looking forward to running one when it's not so cold outside. But I am so glad that I did this one.
